121

By , updated

121 is a solo checkout routine. You start from 121 with nine darts, three visits, to hit exactly zero, finishing on a double. Do it, and the next attempt starts from 122. Miss, and it goes back down, never below 121.

It teaches you to set up your double over several visits, as at the end of a leg.

The aim

Finish as high as you can, starting from 121. Alone, to learn to finish under pressure.

The attempt

Each attempt starts from a number, 121 the first time, and gives you 9 darts, three visits, to land exactly on zero.

The last dart must be a double. The bullseye counts as a double (50).

Going under zero, leaving 1 or finishing without a double is a bust: the visit doesn't count, you go back to the score before it.

What comes next

Finished: the next attempt starts one higher (122, then 123…).

Missed: it starts one lower, never under 121.

The score

10 attempts. Your score: the highest number you finished, and your attempts finished.

An example

121: treble 20, 61 left. Single 11, 50 left. Bullseye, which counts as a double: 50, you're on zero. Attempt done, the next starts from 122.

Variants

  • 10 or 20 attempts per session.

On Bullcast

121 comes with Bullcast Complete, under Training. The phone suggests the checkout every visit, and your stats keep the highest number you've finished.

Questions

What does the score count?

The highest number you finished in the session, and your successful attempts.

Is there a bust in 121?

Yes, as in 501: going below zero, being left on 1 or finishing without a double cancels the visit, and you go back to your score before it.
