These are the World Darts Federation's measurements for bristle boards, used by national bodies and leagues. The diagonal checks the other two: if it's right, so are the height and the distance.

Hang the board with the 20 at the top.

A board should read without shadows. Light it from the front and from above, never from behind the player, whose shadow would fall on the board. A ring light fitted around the board also removes the darts' shadows.

• Room on each side of the oche, for whoever is waiting their turn.
• A surround protects the wall from the darts that miss.
• A mat protects the points and the floor, and can carry the oche.
• Nothing fragile behind the board, and no walkway between the oche and the wall.

With Bullcast, the TV shows the score to everyone. Put it next to the board, where the player can see it from the oche, but out of line: a dart that bounces out must not be able to reach it.
